Broadcast Journalism

Broadcast Journalism is what first got me into the world of journalism. From starting my sophomore year making dumb little projects like a Star Wars short film, to now covering crucial topics our students need to know, I couldn’t recommend a better spot to start someone’s journalism career.

Through video I’ve found ways to tell everyone’s story through multiple storytelling methods. From lighthearted PSAs to Serious topics affecting our school. In my personal opinion video production is the best way to truly tell a story.

Government Shutdown-
On October 1st the government shut down which created great concern for people who may have been affected by its shutdown. I thought that this would be a very important topic to cover to give clarity to students affected.

Ava Morrison Spotlight-
B-Roll is definitely one of my favorite parts of video, and with this project I helped create, I loved finding clever ways to display her day-to-day life working.

FCCLA Club Spotlight-
Through my time with VNN I have had the opportunity to highlight many clubs in our school community. FCCLA club was one of my favorites.

Teacher Appreciation-
In honor of teacher appreciation week, my classmate Patience and I went around asking kids who their favorite teacher is and why they liked them.

Senior Spotlight- Piper Couch
This project was made with my Executive Producer at the time, Lola Woodburn as we covered Piper Couch, a soon-to-be pilot and her journey with flying.

Fair Construction-
One of the most iconic staples of our little city Puyallup is the Washington State Fair, and at the beginning of 2025, renovations started all around the fair to upgrade the facility. I tried my best to give students the inside look on these changes.

Water Polo Highlight-
When you happen to play the sport you cover, sometimes it’s easy to tell a story about it. What makes it even easier is when your friends are cool with being interviewed (even if one forgot to take their glasses off)

Emerald Ridge Skit-
One of Puyallup High School’s biggest rivals is Emerald Ridge High School, and for this simple skit, I decided to make a fake dream scenario where everything at PHS was turned into Emerald Ridge. With mics peaking and Jack slowly going crazy, this skit provided lots of laughs for our students.

Marketing and Engagement

In this section of Marketing and Engagement I show off my video themed marketing and audience engagement, and sprinkled throughout the rest of the portfolio is other graphics, photos, and more that fit this category.

This video was one of my first Tik Toks I made for the program, and this video drew new eyes to VNN by recognizing that “Guy from VNN”

Prom Ticket PSA- Remember when I mentioned those silly Star Wars videos in Video Production 1? Why not make a promotional video for social media on people needing to buy their Prom ticket? One of my favorite funny projects that I have worked on that caught the audiences attention and marketed Prom tickets.

Homecoming PSA- Through these fun PSAs, we managed to get the attention of students and have them pay attention to important purchases and need to knows.
